How To Remove Chewing Gum Naturally

Whether it’s on your clothes or hair, sticking gum can turn into a nightmare. You do not have to throw away the garment or cut your hair, you can remove it with very useful and effective homemade recipes. Enjoy them!

Tips to remove gum from clothes

Using the iron

With this method you will not only remove the gum but you will prevent the garment from being ruined.

  • Locate well the parts where it has stuck. Perhaps it is only in one area or perhaps there are small pieces in several sectors.
  • Plug in the iron and while the temperature is increasing, place a cardboard or cardboard in the part where the gum is. Flip the garment so that the cardboard is on the ironing board.
  • Pass the iron as usual and stay a few seconds where the stain is. You may have to repeat it several times if it is too stuck.
  • The result is that the chewing gum will stick to the cardboard and your garment will be cleaned and ironed.

With liquid soap

It does not matter the fabric of the garment, you can remove the gum that was stuck using liquid soap, either from clothes or hands.

  • It covers the area where that sticky problem is well.
  • Scrub well with a stiff bristle brush  to spread the soap and penetrate the gum particles .
  • With a wooden or plastic spatula proceed to remove it, be careful not to make a hole in the clothing.
  • If it doesn’t come out completely, add a little more liquid soap and repeat the process with the brush. You can let it work for a few minutes too.There are certain tricks to removing chewing gum from clothing.

    How to remove gum from different surfaces

    In wood

    • Cool this surface to be able to remove, but without wetting the wood. It is best to wrap an ice cube in a bag or cloth and rest on the gum.
    • Then with a flat element such as a spatula, remove very carefully.
    • If there are small remains, they can be cleaned with water and a cloth or even with a drop of neutral soap.
    • If the wood is varnished or lacquered, you can use ammonia diluted in water, then drying very well to avoid halos or marks.

    Marble or stone

    • It can be the kitchen counter or the floor tiles. To remove it we will also use ice.
    • Cool the gum well and then scrape off with a spatula, knife or spoon.
    • The remains are removed with benzol, water, detergent or neutral soap.

    Wall

    • If the paint is not washable, then the gum must be removed with heat, for example, using a hair dryer.
    • Do not apply direct heat, but first “glue” a piece of blotting paper or paper with benzol.
    • A few drops of ether can also be used. If the wall has washable paper, you can first harden it with ice and then remove it with your nails or fingers, so as not to damage it.
    • Finally rinse with water and mild soap.

    Carpet

    • Also by applying an ice cube it will come off immediately. If there are remains, rub with a cotton ball soaked in white spirit. This same technique works for other fabrics.
    • Earthenware, glass or porcelain.  Boil the piece in a pot with plenty of water, until it softens on its own. Wash as usual and wipe with an alcohol- soaked cloth to remove any residue.

    Iron

    • Chill the gum with ice and rub with a knife or spatula.
    • Another option is to do it with a hair dryer and remove with the same utensils.
    • If there are remains, then remove with warm water and white soap, rinse and dry with absorbent paper.

    How to remove gum from hair?

    The options are:

    • Cooking oil. Spread a generous amount of oil on the lock with the gum and with a fine-bristled brush, gently peel off.
    • Ice.  As with many surfaces, place an ice cube on the hair to freeze the rubber so that it comes out easier afterwards.
    • Alcohol.  Soak a cotton ball with alcohol and apply it to the gum, until you remove it. Be careful as this dries out the strands a lot. Then a good cream bath is advised .
