Alternative Uses For Ice Cubes

Beyond chilling or decorating drinks in hot weather, ice cubes have many other uses that come in handy once we discover them. Then we reveal them to you so you can take advantage of them all.

What are ice cubes for?

Ice cubes can be allies for health, aesthetics and even for home care. These are some of the most interesting uses:

1. Remove gum from fabrics

If you have sat on gum, if gum or gum was stuck in your hair or if it has fallen on the carpet, do not despair, ice cubes can help you. You just have to rub on the garment until the candy is hard due to the action of the cold.

Then with the help of a knife scrape carefully. The gum will come off quickly. If the gum is too sticky, you can put the clothes in the freezer for a few minutes before trying to remove them again.

If the gum stuck to your hair, the technique is similar. Surround the gum with the ice cube and press lightly so that the candy cools and is no longer sticky. Then you will have to pull a little to loosen it, little by little.

2. Water the plants

If you have hanging pots or you go on a weekend getaway you will have no problem watering the plants, you can leave some ice cubes on your plants.  These will thaw little by little and hydrate the soil.

3. Refresh the skin

If you want to cool off, you can use the ice cubes to pamper yourself. To do this, before going to sleep, fill a plastic bag with ice and cover it with sterile gauze. Apply to face and neck for about 3 minutes, no more.

4. Reheat rice or pasta

If you have food left over from the night before and you want to heat it in the microwave, you will surely give up the idea because the food does not turn out well.

To prevent the rice or pasta from becoming dehydrated in the microwave and tasting bad, you just have to place an ice cube on top and then heat the food. As the moisture melts, it will pass into the food and it will taste good.

5. Flatten the voids in the carpet

When a piece of furniture is on the carpet for several months or years, a mark that is difficult to hide remains. Those holes left by the sofa, table or other heavy furniture are not aesthetic at all.

You can solve this problem by placing a few ice cubes on the marks. When they have melted, run a brush and watch the mark disappear.

6. To close the pores

Ice cubes can help tighten your pores after you’ve done a facial. To do this, they should be applied wrapped in sterile gauze on the face for a few minutes. By closing your pores, you will prevent them from filling with dirt and getting pimples and other imperfections.

7. Reduce the taste of syrup

Although almost all the medications that we are prescribed come in pill form, there are still some that are in syrup and do not have a pleasant taste. To avoid this, suck on a piece of ice a few seconds before ingesting the remedy so that the tongue becomes numb and less sensitive to the taste.

8. Iron wrinkles

This trick can be used for example for shirts that wrinkle so easily. Turn on the iron and wrap an ice cube in a cloth. Rub over wrinkles with the latter and then iron as usual. In a single pass the clothes will stop being wrinkled.

9. Deflate eyes

If you have stayed awake, you have cried a lot or any other reason that has swollen your eyes, ice cubes can be useful. Simply wrap in a cloth and rest on the eyelids for two minutes while massaging in gentle circular motions.

10. Reduce the pain of waxing

If you use waxing you will know that in certain areas the technique can be quite painful. Pulling out hairs by the roots is not very pleasant, but the good news is that the pain of pulling can be reduced with ice cubes.

Wrap some in a cloth and apply to the area you want to depilate. This trick is most effective on small areas like the armpits or the eyebrows. Another option is to apply after waxing to soothe the itch.

11. Avoid burn blisters

If you have been burned with the oven or with the iron or have spent hours lying in the sun, ice soothes the pain, swelling and redness of the skin. It also prevents the annoying blisters from forming. Directly apply the ice cube on the affected area.

It can also be used to reduce bruises when we hit or fall. The cold closes the capillaries faster and the bruise marks are reduced.
